Associate Pastor for Adult Discipleship
First Presbyterian Church Beaver, Pennsylvania
Position Description:
This pastor is responsible for the planning, implementation and oversight of adult discipleship ministries and programs at First Presbyterian Church (FPC), Beaver. We seek a leader to provide discipleship rooted in God’s Word and empowered by His Spirit. The ideal candidate will invite our congregation into a closer relationship with God to help us become more like Jesus and equip us to extend His love to a broken and needy world. This person will embody a love for God's people, a passion for discipleship, and be theologically aligned in the reformed tradition.
Relationships and Organization:
Status: Full Time/Exempt
Supervisor: Senior Pastor
Responsible to: Session
Collaborates with: FPC Ministry and Support Staff
Supervises: Discipleship Ministries, Lay Leaders, and Small Groups
Qualifications:
• Reflects the love and compassion of Jesus Christ in life and work.
• Demonstrates a passion for reaching and discipling individuals and families in the church and community.
• Demonstrates servant leadership within Christ-centered relationships.
• Demonstrates effective administrative/planning skills and is a creative problem solver.
• Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills with people of all ages.
• Holds an undergraduate or graduate degree in ministry (or equivalent experience).
• Ordained (or ordainable) in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
• Master of Divinity from an accredited seminary.
• Leadership experience.
Major Responsibilities:
• Leading in Discipleship
• Work with the chair of the Adult Discipleship Committee, attend committee meetings, and oversee
ministries and programs, which currently include:
• Adult Sunday school
• Small groups
• Men’s/Women’s ministry
• New members’ education and activation
• Library/study resources
• Develop, implement and oversee new discipleship opportunities that align with and further the vision and
mission of FPC.
• Cultivate environments for the faithful and fruitful pursuit of Jesus throughout the church.
• Connect people to FPC's discipleship ministries.
• Recruit, train, and shepherd lay leaders in the congregation.
• Leading in the Organization
• Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and ministry staff to ensure program alignment with the church's mission
and vision.
• Implement systems for ministry coordination, communication, and volunteer management.
• Organize church events, including scheduling, logistics, and coordinating volunteers.
• Preaching/Teaching/Pastoral Responsibilities
• Participate in and help to lead corporate worship (as needed), including opportunities for preaching and
administration of the sacraments.
• Provide pastoral ministry to families in collaboration with the Senior Pastor and other staff members.
• Teach adult Sunday school classes on a regular basis.
• Additional preaching/teaching as appropriate.
• Additional pastoral duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor and Session.
Personal/Professional Development:
• High level of personal accountability in both public ministry and personal sanctification.
• Ongoing pursuit of theological education and personal spiritual growth.
