International Mission Statement -- The guiding philosophy of ministry pursued by the International Missions Committee of FPC.

To “declare His praise,” giving glory to God alone, by assisting in the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world, through educating, developing mission opportunities, and promoting mission experiences for the worshipping community at FPC, as well as, supporting, funding, and praying for the worldwide mission of the Church.

“To Declare His Praise” : The mission of the International Missions Committee (IMC) in part seeks to fulfill the overall mission and purpose of the First Presbyterian Church—to declare God’s praise.

“giving glory to God alone” : The primary and dominate means by which we strive to praise Him.

“by assisting in the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world” : The specific goal of the IMC focuses on the advancement of the Gospel in each and every pocket of the world, both here and abroad, that His message of salvation and His Kingdom might be know in all parts of the world.

“through educating the worshipping community at FPC” : One of the key responsibilities of the IMC is to educate the FPC community theoretically in the importance of missions in the Christian lifestyle, practically in the means and methods of effective mission work, and spiritually in the daily exercise of prayer, lifestyle, and worship on a global scale.

“providing mission trip opportunities for the worshipping community at FPC” : Another key responsibility of the IMC is to provide hands on opportunities for participation in the ongoing ministry of Christ in this world. This primarily takes form in our annual short-term mission trips. Each year, the IMC should encourage, cultivate, and develop mission opportunities for individuals in the church to engage in.

“promoting mission experiences for the worshipping community at FPC” : The IMC additionally promotes various experiences, speakers, and other opportunities for the FPC community to become exposed and participate (often from afar as “senders”) in missions. This may take the form of encouraging church members to support individual missionaries, to offer other encouragement and provision, and to explore other means of advancing God’s kingdom.

“supporting, funding, and praying for the worldwide mission of the Church” : The IMC additionally serves missions work which occurs outside our congregation by offering financial assistance to individual missionaries and mission organizations, as well as by providing other support and assistance when and where possible.

2013 Mission Trips Forming Now!

Great Resource for Mission Prayer - You know that you should (yet wondering how), to pray for God’s work in the world...

Allow me to introduce you to a marvelous resource:   Operation World, by Patrick Johnstone.

In this work (which, yes, is in our library!), Johnstone provides a short, half-page summary of each nation in the world, followed by a page description of the status of the Gospel in that country, and specific prayer needs for the peoples. A great educational resource, as well as prayer guide. Try it!
