Adult Christian Education

We are committed to empowering Christ's people to grow in their faith. We believe that this process happens most consistently by being immersed in the study of the Scripture, the nurture and care of the community, and the opportunity to minister to others. Thus, our educational and discipleship programs are structured so that participants might grow in their understanding of the Bible and in their ability to minister to others in God's name.

Our present Sunday School program offers a variety of classes intended to strengthen adults in their spiritual growth. These courses are taught by gifted pastors, educators, and lay leaders who are carefully chosen according to their knowledge and willingness to teach and guide others. The classes vary in form, allowing you to choose between several class sizes, topics, and educational approaches.

Christian Leadership Institute
As part of the ongoing responsibility of the Church to nurture believers and train future leaders in the faith, First Presbyterian Church operates a two-year program, “The Christian Leadership Institute,” or CLI, designed to equip lay leaders in specific ministry areas. As part of the vision embraced by FPC’s elders, this program will work in conjunction with other Christian Education ministries here at FPC, as well as partnering with other like-minded congregations.
These groups are especially intended to help adults mature in their understanding of the faith and in the practice of godly, Christian living. In addition to the study of Scripture, participants have the opportunity to develop a closer, intimate relationship with other believers, and to join together in prayer and service.
Our Education Committee offers a yearly Men's Retreat and a Women's Retreat, so adults can "get away" and spend significant time with others in the church, focusing on God and their relationships. Other retreat possibilities include a Couples Retreat, Young Adult Retreats, a Mothers Retreat, and other smaller get-aways.
Joining First Presbyterian Church involves a number of pragmatic steps: (1) commitment to a 14-week Sunday school course intended to expose the class to FPC and Reformed theology, (2) meeting with an elder to have specific questions answered regarding the church, and (3) meeting with the session to testify to your commitment to Christ and to voice questions and/or concerns about the church as a whole.

First Presbyterian Church is devoted to the families of our congregation and the surrounding community. For most Christians, family constitutes the greatest opportunity for expressing faith, so we seek to enhance the viability and health of marriages by teaching skills that sustain, improve and enrich those relationships.
One of the many blessing of the First Presbyterian Church is our library. Please visit the library web page for information everything you need to know about the church library.
